Long Melford II v HADLEIGH CRICKET CLUB, SUFFOLK Sunday Development XI on Sun 01 Sep 2019 at 1.30pm
HADLEIGH CRICKET CLUB, SUFFOLK Won by 6 wickets

Match report I know I say this every week, but this was a difficult week for team selection, due to all of our talented youngsters playing in a U19 T20 final at Hadleigh, some of our senior players also had duties (Capt Pete was DJ).

Many thanks goes to the players who made themselves available, who would not have normally played. So it was, that probably our oldest Sunday XI team, travelled to Long Melford, for our last away game of the season.
Martin assuming captaincy lost the toss (just like Pete) and Long Melford elected to bat first.

George and Tim opened the bowling, without initial success, and a run rate of 5 per over, was established for the first 10 overs. The breakthrough came in the 15th over when Roger bowled the opening batsman, who left the ball. He then had a double wicket maiden in his next over, with a successful lbw appeal and another clean bowled.
Ben was frustrated by his old man's 'pies', as he continued to bowl at the other end without success. Ben thought he had taken a wicket when Gary took a catch, though it looked like it was safe in his hands, somehow it popped out!
At drinks, Long Melford were 105-3.
Phil was introduced to replace Roger, and bowled very economically to take a wicket, thanks to a catch by Tim.
MG introduced himself and Tony in the 36th over with immediate results, MG taking 3 wickets for 13 runs in 4 overs (including a wicket maiden). George taking a fine catch on the boundary to take the wicket of the No. 2 batsman when on 92.
With the help of some poor fielding, and 46 extras (yes, forty bloody six!), Long Melford finished on 203-7.

After tea, Hadleigh openers Gary and Dave went out to bat. Dave was bowled in the 3rd over after scoring a quick 4, he was replaced by Tony.
Both batted sensibly and steadily. Gary was bowled in the 13th over for a respectable 27, which brought Lucy into bat. Lucy top edged a ball and was caught on 0.
Next in was Tim, and he and Tony made good progress, at drinks we were 93-3. After drinks both batsmen increased the tempo, Tony's score especially was increasing well. In the 33rd over, Tim and Tony ran 2 x consecutive threes, and Tony was heard to shout 'no more' at Tim. In was in the next over we needed 13 to win, coincidently with Tony requiring 10 for his century, and Tim requiring 3 for his 50.
A small girl was given the next over, Tony cruelly dispatching her first ball for 4, but 2 balls later he hit a ball straight back to her, which she caught. Tony was out for 94.
Next in was Sharon, who scored 2 x singles and a four, but it was Tim who hit a mighty six into someone's garden to seal the game for Hadleigh in the 35th over.

It was good to win again, and thanks to a very youthful Long Melford team for a good game, played in the correct manner and spirit.
Last game at home next week, and safe from relegation (I think!).
