Freston v HADLEIGH CRICKET CLUB, SUFFOLK Sunday Development XI on Sun 11 Aug 2019 at 1.30pm

Match report A windy day for our away match to Freston, who play at Ipswich CC (Clay Hall).
Despite a number of regular players being on holiday, we got a team together, but it wasn't a strong batting team!
Pete lost the toss, and Freston elected to bat on what looked a very nice wicket. Ollie and Charlie were the opening bowlers for Hadleigh.
Ollie bowled well, but Charlie struggled up hill and in to the wind, and extras were a problem, so Pete gave him a rest after three overs. Owen replaced him, but also complained about bowling uphill and into the strong wind.
Roger and Buster (returning from injury) were introduced at the 12th over, and managed to bring down the run rate. Buster's first two overs were maidens, Roger was not so economical, his 'loose' balls being punished. Roger took his first wicket in the 18th over when the batsman chopped on. A 2nd wicket was taken when the batsman hit the ball a 2nd time with his bat, to prevent the ball hitting the stumps. Buster took his wicket with an almost perfect Yorker in his 6th over.
Roger got his 3rd wicket when he clean bowled the batsman with his very last ball of his 10th over.
Unfortunately this wicket brought James 'Glider' Gilderson into bat (probably best known for his prompt payment of subs and match fees at Hadleigh), who is still a good player. A quick 47 from him in the last 10 overs helped Freston to a final score of 196-4, aided with 33 extras, and some poor fielding!

During tea, Captain Pete worked long and hard on his batting order, but was not hopeful.
So it was, the two 'O's were to open (Owen and Ollie). Owen hit his first ball for 4, and took 8 off the over. A maiden followed, and then Owen hit 10 off his 2nd over, just the start we needed. Ollie was caught in the 7th over, a quick 10 from George followed before he too was caught. Owen was caught in the 11th over when on 25.
Catches were the order of the day, Phil, Harry, Dave, Charlie, Vinny and Roger were all to follow soon after.
Hadleigh were 71-9 in the 21st over, and only brothers Pete and Buster could restore any sort of respectability. Both batted well, and took the score to 109 in the next 6 overs. Buster also being caught for 15, to end Hadleigh's chase. Pete finished as highest scoring batsman on 28 not out. A captain showing the middle order how it should be done.
A disappointing result (especially in front of the umpiring Hadleigh Chairman). All 10 wickets were catches, which is unusual (I'm not sure what that tells us!).

A big thank you to our many spectators that turned up, sorry we were unable to give them a better result. We are undoubtable the best supported Hadleigh team.
