Milden v HADLEIGH CRICKET CLUB, SUFFOLK Sunday Development XI on Sun 12 May 2019 at 1.30pm

Match report A sunny, but cool day for our 3rd game of the season away to local rivals Milden. The development team still looking for their first win of the season.
Captain Pete was still injured, and unavailability of other regulars made team selection difficult. Thanks must go to Sunil and Cal for agreeing to play a 2nd game this weekend, to give us a full team. There was a last minute disaster when Sunil contacted us to say he had broken down (he had just filled his diesel car full of petrol!), but thankfully some friends were able to get him to Milden in time for the start.
Cal assumed captaincy, and lost the toss. Hadleigh were put into bat first, Taylor and Lewis were chosen to open. A slow start not helped when Lewis was bowled by Hadleigh ex player Greg Hayton in the 2nd over. We were 0-1 off 2 overs.
Dave Levitt came into to bat, and found many holes in the Milden field with his flamboyant shots, Dave scored a swift 13 before being trapped LBW by Greg. This brought Sunil into bat, and the run rate steadily increased. An 11 over partnership between Sunil and Taylor took the score from 18 to 97, at drinks we were 112-3. Taylor was caught on 32 and Sunil played around a ball and was bowled for a decent 59, but he knew he could have done better.
Cal and Elliot were in bat now and Cal batted vey well, despite still being in 'Vodka Revs' that morning at 4:00! Good running between the wickets, and Cal punishing anything that was wide saw the score climb. With 2 balls remaining, Cal was on 97, Milden closed their field, but Cal simply hit one over the top to finish on 104 not out (not bad for 5 hours sleep!), Elliot finished on 26. The team finished on 255-4.

After tea, Hadleigh went out to field on what was a cloudy and cool afternoon. The 'O's were to open the Hadleigh bowling - Owen and Oliver. Both bowled well and made sure that Milden never really achieved the run rate required. Sunil and Lewis both turned their arms and were also economical. A clear runout, that was not given by the umpire, but credit to the Milden batsman who walked, at drinks, Milden were 80-1.

Roger and Martin were both given the chance to bowl, though initially expensive, both took wickets. It was in the 29th over that Cal brought himself on, with instant results, taking a wicket with his first ball - and another with his 2nd. He was on for a 6 wicket maiden!
This was not to be, but he did take another 2 wickets in his 2nd over, and 1 more in his 3rd. Cal finished on 3 overs, 4 runs for 5 wickets. 104 not out and a five for, not bad for a guy that was still clubbing 12 hours earlier!
Owen came back on to take the last wicket, Hadleigh winning by 134 runs.

Thanks again to Cal, for making up the numbers, and helping a little towards our victory!
