Lakenheath II v HADLEIGH CRICKET CLUB, SUFFOLK Sunday Development XI on Sun 19 Aug 2018 at 1:30pm

Match report Once again off to Lakenheath for a game against top of the league (not Worlington this time), the outfield looking slightly better than our last visit.

A difficult week for team selection, with regulars Arran and Owen both on holiday, so we were grateful again for Dan and Jamie to play, and a big thank you to Kevin Harris of Whepstead for making it 11.
Pete had a plan, to win the toss and to bat first. He lost the toss and Lakenheath batted first!

Corey and Dan opened the bowling, Corey taking a couple of overs to find line and length, after this the run rate settled. A drop in the slips by Taylor in the 2nd over might prove to be expensive. At 10 overs Lakenheath were 45 for no loss.
It was in the next over Corey took a wicket, and then Dan took a wicket in the very next over. Unfortunately this brought in the captain, he and the opener batted well.
A change in bowling to Tabs and Roger didn’t reap rewards for the next 8 overs.
Roger managed to bowl out the opener with an awful bowl, which was matched by an awful shot, the only good thing about it, was that it was on target.
Tony dropped a difficult chance off Tabs’ bowling, but redeemed himself a couple of overs later taking one at a more comfortable height.

Roger and Tabs’ stints were to be rather expensive for their two wickets.

Ollie Clark had a bowl and took 2 wickets in his 4 overs – very good. Dan and Cory were recalled to complete the 40 overs, and to try to stem the flow of runs.
Lakenheath finished on 228-6 off their 40 overs.

After tea, Hadleigh openers Tony and Tony went out to bat. Unfortunately Jamie was caught on 15, in the 5th over after hitting 3 consecutive fours, and Tony was bowled in the 9th over. Two balls later new batsman Dan was run out for a duck, things were looking poor.
Kev came in a scored a steady 10 and Tabs 18 before being trapped LBW. After this, wickets fell steadily, and last batsman in, Cory and Roger were not the 2 guys who were going to score 100 off the last 5 overs!
Four batsmen scored ducks, Corey finished on 3 not out. We lost by exactly 100 runs.

Oh well, Lakenheath remain unbeaten and we slip into the relegation zone, with only one match remaining. Eek!
