HADLEIGH CRICKET CLUB, SUFFOLK Sunday Development XI v Milden on Sun 12 Aug 2018 at 1:30pm

Match report Our last home game of the season against local rivals Milden (Tabs' favourite team ).

An unusual week for team selection, as a few of the younger Saturday boys wanted to play Sunday too, so Pete and Roger stepped aside, so that a very youthful Sunday team could play.
Elder statesman, Tony was elected as Captain for the day.

This all changed one hour before the start of the game, Tony making a phone call to Pete explaining he was too hung over to play! Not a good example to set, especially from ‘sensible’ Tony. Roger filled the gap, and Dan was made captain.

Dan won the toss and elected to bowl first.
Hadleigh opening bowlers Arran and Cory bowled well, Cory taking a wicket in the 2nd over of his first game back. Arran was replaced by Taylor, who took a wicket in his first over, things were looking good. Roger replaced Cory, and the run rate slowed. At drinks, Milden were 80-2. Roger had a strong appeal for LBW turned down, but was to bowl the batsmen out a couple of overs later.
Tabs replaced Taylor and bowled very well, eventually taking 4 wickets for 28 runs off his 9 overs.
One amusing incident that happened was, as the ball was being returned to Tabs to bowl, Dave threw the ball to him, but Tabs wasn't watching, and the ball hit him in the head! Next ball Tabs took a wicket, it was suggested that if we hit Tabs in the head every ball, we would get another wicket, both teams formed an orderly queue!
Arran had a 2nd stint and took 3 wickets himself. Milden were bowled out on the last ball for 150, all 5 bowlers taking a share of the wickets.

After a very nice tea, with lots of home made cakes, Hadleigh openers Taylor and Gary went out to bat. The Milden bowlers were very good. Hadleigh lost their first wicket in the 10th over when Taylor was caught on 21. Gary soon followed LBW. We were ok, Dan and Jamie would finish the job off, surely!

Jamie was out for 1, and Dan for 22. Wickets then just tumbled, Owen the only other batsman to make double figures with 12. Hadleigh were all bowled out for 71, losing all 10 wickets in an eleven over spell, by some very good bowling. One bowler taking 6 wickets for 29 runs (he was a much better bowler than an umpire!).
In the 21 overs that Hadleigh lasted for, Milden only gave away a single extra (1 x wide). Hadleigh gave away 21 in comparison.

Thankyou to Tony for umpiring the 21 overs we lasted for, as he wasn’t feeling that great!

Relegation looms!
