HADLEIGH CRICKET CLUB, SUFFOLK Sunday Development XI v Earl Stonham II on Sun 03 Jun 2018 at 1:30pm

Match report A very warm Sunday for only our 2nd home game of the season, against co-promotion team, Earl Stonham.
Chief Coach Mango had advised us to pick two new HCC members to play – Matt Finlay and Richard Sadd, who were duly selected and accepted. They were welcomed to the team (must admit, we were expecting a couple of youngsters!).
Pete lost the toss and Hadleigh were elected to field first in the full sun. Buster and Tabs opened the bowling and faired very well, restricting Earl Stonham to just 9 runs off the first 5 overs. Buster took his first wicket in the 3rd over, sweet revenge for the 4 his was hit for, with the previous ball.
Buster and Tabs took a rest after the 10th over with the score on 34-1. Roger and Taylor were to take the next bowling stint, both batsmen now realising that the run rate needed to improve. At 20 overs Earl Stonham were 89-1, however batsman # 3 had suffered an injury and decided to hit out. Fortunately for Roger, a miss hit ball was an easy catch for Taylor and he was out for 52. Roger’s bowling went a bit wayward after this, and he was asked to take a rest also.
Simon and Tony were the next to bowl. Simon taking a wicket in his 3rd over. With the opening batsman gone for 71, subsequent batsmen continued to punish our bowlers. Buster was given a 2nd stint and was rewarded with another wicket. Simon came back on and took another 2 wickets, but was punished in the last over, going for 24 (including 3 x sixes). Earl Stonham finished on 211-6 off their 40 overs.
After a lovely tea, prepared by Michelle and her 2 little helpers (Darcy & Hannah), Hadleigh father/son combo, Tony and Taylor went out to bat.
A slow but steady start saw Hadleigh on 23 when Tony was bowled in the 11th over for 11. Tabs came into bat next with ‘Fatso’ (his new bat) and scored well, until a misunderstanding resulting in his run out in the 24th over when on 18. Taylor was caught on 23. James batted well, with some lovely drives and also using the speed of the ball to steer it away. James scored a quick 24 before being bowled.
Brothers Pete and Buster were the last stand, with only losing bonus points to chase. Pete hit a hard cover drive straight into the ribs of the fielder, both batsmen checked that he was genuinely hurt before stealing a quick run (good sportsmanship).
Pete scored a quick 18, before playing a difficult ball, into an easy catch.
Hadleigh finished on 128-7. We just seemed to lack a bit of firepower this day!
