HADLEIGH CRICKET CLUB, SUFFOLK Sunday Development XI v BSSSC on Sun 22 Apr 2018 at 1:30pm

Match report Our first league game in division 3 (gulp!) at home to British Sugar Sports and Social Club (BSSSC). It was a splendid day, in far better weather and pitch conditions to our previous week's friendly at Whepstead.
Capt Pete was unfortunately still injured from the previous weeks game, so 'big guns' Daniel and Bloss (a little gun) were drafted into the fray. Vinny assumed captaincy and strolled out to the wicket, to win the toss, and put Hadleigh into bat! We never bat first if we win the toss, the power of captaincy, had gone to Vinny's head!
Father/son combination Tony and Taylor opened the bat. Steady runs were scored until the 7th over when Taylor was caught behind on 17. Owen came into bat next and scored a quick 18, when he was bowled in the 11th over with the score on 54. Next in came Jamie, who batted very sensibly and scored impressively too. At first drinks we were on 66-2. After drinks, Tony and Jamie both got their heads down and scored well, Tony's wicket being taken in the 22nd over for 23, and the team on 103.
Dan then came into bat, both youngsters scored well, with some excellent running between the wickets. Jamie especially scored well, and started the last over on 92. Unluckily Jamie was caught, trying to go for his ton, but a fine innings non the less. James faced two balls, and Hadleigh finished their 40 overs on a very respectable 218 for only 4 wickets. Dan finishing on a fine 44.
After a fine tea prepared by the normal 'crew', BSSSC went out to bat.
And bat they did, opening bowlers Owen and Roger were cannon fodder to the opening batsman, Roger especially being punished. He reached his 50 in the 11th over with BSSSC on 66 - We were going to bloody lose this!
Roger and Owen were both told to take a rest, and Bloss and Dan were introduced. Two oppurtunities were missed to take the batsman's wicket - a catch behind and a difficult catch that was dropped by debutant Dave Levett. The breakthrough was made in the Bloss' 4th over when he bowled the threatening batsman for 60. He was to repeat this feat 3 balls later! BSSSC were 81-2 in the 16th over.
After this, the run rate seriously slowed and wickets continued to fall, fine catches from Roger, Jamie and Dan and wickets also being taken by Tabs, Dave and Dan.
The game finished after the 8th wicket as BSSSC were down to only 9 batsman (one injured and one went home early!). BSSSC finished on 141, Hadleigh winning their first Div 3 match by 77 runs.
Pick of the bowlers was that old master Bloss, taking 4 wickets for 21 runs, including four maidens and one wicket maiden. Good job Pete couldn't play really!
