Milden v HADLEIGH CRICKET CLUB, SUFFOLK Sunday Development XI on Sun 03 Sep 2017 at 1:30pm
HADLEIGH CRICKET CLUB, SUFFOLK Won By 4 Wickets
Match report
Our last away fixture of the season, at local league leaders Milden, on a very overcast dull day.
With 4 x regulars away on holiday, we were grateful that Dom, Cal, Jamie and Jim Lane made themselves available for this top of the league match.
Buster assumed captaincy, but didn't assume Pete's luck with the toss, and lost. Milden chose to bat first.
Arran and Cory were chosen to open the bowling. Both bowled very well, Cory taking the first wicket with his 4th ball, edging the opening batsman into Jim's safe gloves. After 2 x consecutive maidens, Milden were 7-1 off 6 overs.
The Milden batsmen increased the run rate after this, and increased the score to 38 in the 15th over, when we took our 2nd wicket. Wickets also fell in the 16th, 18th and 19th over to make it 45-5 at drinks, thanks to fine bowling from the 'old master' Buster. Roger was introduced into the bowling to give Buster a rest, which proved to be rather expensive, Buster told him to take a rest after 3 x overs!
Buster brought himself and Arran back on again. Buster bowling 2 out in the 28th over and thanks to good catching by Dom (3) and Jamie (1), Milden were 111-8 in the 36th over. Tabs was given the ball, and cleaned up the tail order, first bowling a maiden, and then taking the last 2 x wickets for 1 run in the 37th over.
Fine bowling from everyone (except Roger) resulted in Milden being all out for 112.
After a very nice tea, including bacon rolls, Hadleigh openers James Wilding and Jamie went out to bat in very poor light. Ex Hadleigh player Greg Hayton, proved to have lost none of his speed and accuracy, bowling 3 x maidens in his first 4 x overs, two off them being wicket maidens. James (1) and Jamie (11) being his victims.
We were 20-2 off 7 overs. Cal and Owen batted sensibly and managed to increase this to 54 by the 13th over. Cal lost his wicket on a fine 42, and his replacement Arran for 0. We were 66-4 off 17 overs, maybe Dom could stop the slide.
With the Milden bowlers still bowling very well, Dom managed to dispatch some boundaries. The damage was done, we were 111-4 off 25 overs, only 2 runs were needed to win the game.
Owen was then to lose his wicket on 15, and Dom was caught behind, going for glory. Frantic moments for Hadleigh, Tabs and Cory came in to get bat. Tabs edged one into the air, but landed safely, and a run was taken. Cory faced the next ball, got an edge and a quick run was stolen. Victory was ours in the 26th over!
A good game, and the first time Milden have lost at home, for over 2 years.
Credit due to Milden's bowlers, who were very good.
Looks like we're in Div 3 next year - oh well!
