HADLEIGH CRICKET CLUB, SUFFOLK Sunday Development XI v Lakenheath II on Sun 13 Aug 2017 at 1:30pm

Match report Captain Pete was back - Hooray. He gave the captaincy to Buster - Boo!
A good week for selection, even without Arran and Owen still, and a home match to a ten men Lakenheath (which was fair, because we only had ten when we played there). Who were now 3rd in the league, after we defeated Earl Stonham last week. Another 'must lose' game!
Buster reasoned we should bat first, after inspecting the wicket. He then went on to lose the toss and we were made to bowl.
Cory and Roger were chosen to open the bowling. Cory made the perfect start by edging the first ball into James' gloves - wicket first ball, it doesn't get better than that! Cory and Roger continued to bowl economically, and at drinks Lakenheath were only on 53-2 off their 20 overs.
After a refreshing drink, the Lakenheath batsmen upped their game, and the run rate increased. Jamie and Tabs were introduced, Jamie and Tabs were both to take 2 wickets each, one being a fine one-handed catch by Harry. Tony and Buster both had a go at turning their arm over, but some sloppy fielding (slow motion rolls seemed to be popular) resulted in Lakenheath finishing on 169 for 6 off their 40 overs - an expensive 2nd half!
After a very nice tea prepared by James' mum (lots of cake!), Hadleigh openers Tony and Jamie went out to bat. Both batted sensibly, and we were on 52 in the 16th over when Tony was caught. Birthday boy Vinny was next into bat, and was hoping to make a 50 to match his age, unfortunately this was not to be, and was stumped on 9. Brief appearances from Harry, Taylor and Tabs resulted in no more runs, and suddenly defeat was staring us in the face. We were 72-4 in the 23rd over.
However Jamie continued to bat very well, and together with James started to turn the tide. Jamie was bowled on an excellent 78, and James (with the help of Cory scoring 10) took us past the finishing line with 4 balls remaining. A very mature innings from James finishing on 41 not out (with quite an impressive beard for a 15 year old!), and a win thanks mainly to Jamie and James. Promotion looms ever closer!
A big thank you to all of our collective WAGAM's (Wives and Girlfriends and Mothers, for those of you that had forgot), they made an impressive line-up (if sometimes a bit noisey) along the top bank.
Tony sat in the pavilion afterwards still wearing the shirt he played in - an example of how standards are falling in cricket!
Next week - away to Delia's old stomping ground.
