Elveden v HADLEIGH CRICKET CLUB, SUFFOLK Sunday Development XI on Sun 09 Jul 2017 at 1:30pm

Match report Just as we thought selection was getting better, suddenly it got much worse! Regulars like Tony, James, Cory were all unavailable.
A late Saturday night Bingo appeal led to the vacant positions being filled by father/son pairing, Phil and Ollie Clark - thank you.
Off to distant, bottom of the league, Elveden. Were we going to change their luck?, they started well by winning the toss, and putting us into bat (which we never like!).
Without Taylor's father being available, it was decided that father figure Tabs would accompany him into bat. After a couple of sweet fours, Tabs was caught by the bowler with a fine overhead one-handed catch in the 4th over. Taylor was run out in the 8th over for 12, after a bit of indecision with a fast running Owen.
Owen broke his bat with the 2nd ball he hit, and shouted for a replacement. Scorer Roger went and collected his, on the basis that the middle was hardly used, and the edges were well knocked in.
Owen inside edged the first ball, perhaps it was the bat! Owen hit the next ball for 4 (not the bat, it's obviously Roger!). Arran and Owen continued to bat well and scored evenly, both were on 29 when Arran was caught and bowled.
Owen continued onto a fine 73 when has was caught behind. The startled bat was handed back to Roger.
New lad Ollie played a fine shot, unfortunately straight into the hands of the fielder at point. Andrew added a quick 12, which then brought in Phil and Roger. Both hit a reasonable 20 runs each (obviously Roger's bat was still possessed by Owen's spirit).
Hadleigh finished on a reasonable 224 with 2 balls remaining.
After a nice tea, Hadleigh went out to field. Opening bowlers Arran and Roger being punished for anything short, but Arran still managed to bowl the opening batsman out for zero in the 3rd over. Batsmen 2 and 3 proved more difficult to remove however, and loose bowling continued to be punished and Elveden were on the money for their first win. Pete decided enough was enough and brought himself in to bowl, with instant results, batsman 3 chopping on in Pete's first over.
Batsmen 2 however survived two appalling run out decisions (didn't realise how desperate the square leg umpire was for a win!).
Pete bowled a loose over and brought Arran back on for his 2nd stint. A fine bowl was edged into brother Owen's gloves, and he was out on 96 with the score on 190-4 in the 35th over.
The remaining batsman were soon dispatched. Arran finishing on 3-31, Taylor on 3-35 and newby Phil taking a pair for 12. Elveden finished on 210.
Another blinkin win, and still 2nd in the league - doh!
