Lavenham v HADLEIGH CRICKET CLUB, SUFFOLK Sunday Development XI on Sun 23 Apr 2017 at 1:30pm

Match report After what was an easy week for team selection, disaster struck on Saturday when both Peter and Vinny said they were unable to play.
Thankfully Cal and Daniel said they were both available to play (phew!)
Our first game of the season was away to Lavenham, Tony was asked to assume captaincy due to his seniority, which he reluctantly agreed to do (he loved it really). Tony strolled out to the crease, won the toss and put Lavenham into bat, in true Captain Pete fashion.
The Lavenham openers made steady progress, Captain Tony (full of captaincy adrenalin) attempting a diving catch in the 3rd over. The first wicket did not fall until the 13th over however, due to some fairly horrific catching and fielding by Hadleigh!
Wickets fell steadily thereafter, thanks to some sharp wicket keeping and 2 x stumpings by Cal, 4 x catches and 3 x bowled out. Roger took a double wicket maiden in his 4th over, but was unable to turn it into a hat trick. Roger was told off by the Captain for bowling a full toss, and Jamie for being asleep! Tony said that everyone had bowled well (even though Dan bowled an over too many!).
Lavenham finished their 40 overs on 177-9. Tony said at drinks, that we should aim to keep them to 175, so not too bad!
After tea, Hadleigh openers Jamie and Taylor went out to bat. Jamie starting very well by hitting every short ball for 4, and was soon on 16. Taylor was given out by his umpiring dad in the 3rd over (caught behind) and looked delighted with his dad's decision!
Taylor was replaced by Gary, who chopped on in the same over. Cal replaced Gary, and then Jamie was run out. We were 28 for 3 off 6 overs, this was not looking so good!
Cal and Daniel rescued us, both staying put and adding plenty of boundaries into the scorebook. Cal made his 50 and lost his wicket the next ball. Harry came in and made 5, but it was Owen that would see us through. Encouraged by his dad's statement of "I'll give you a fiver, if your score a boundary". Owen scored 3 x boundaries and made a total of 17 not out, to take us past the Lavenham score in the 29th over. Daniel finished on 45 not out.
An excellent win for the first game of the season, and many thanks to Cal and Daniel for stepping in at the last moment, and probably (definitely) winning the match for us.
