Bardwell II v HADLEIGH CRICKET CLUB, SUFFOLK Sunday Development XI on Sun 22 May 2016 at 1:30pm

Match report A trip to Bardwell for the Sunday team, a pitch very different to last year. Bardwell have extended the pitch, have an electronic scoreboard, boundary ropes, new practice nets and plans on display for a splendid new pavilion!
Captain Pete (playing for the first time this year) started where he finished last year, and won the toss. He elected Bardwell to bat first.
Taylor and Owen were the opening bowlers, unfortunately Arran struggled to find line and length, and bowled 8 wides in his first over! After a bit of encouragement, Arran improved and the run rate slowed. Taylor taking the first wicket in the 5th over.
Roger and Owen were introduced after the 10th over, and both bowled economically. Roger taking the 2nd wicket in the 17th over. Our fielding in general was rubbish, and at drinks Tony told us so! (No huddle, we don't do huddles - child protection act, and all that).
Bloss and Buster were introduced into the bowling, Bloss finally dismissing batsman no.3. After this wickets fell steadily, thanks to Tabs taking 4 wickets, and Bloss a pair. Buster was very economical too, bowled the only maiden overs of the innings, and took a single wicket. We should have got them all out, but continued sloppy fielding meant Bardwell finished on 151 for 9, after their 40 overs.
The shaming of Hadleigh were the 47 extras in the scorebook!
After tea, Tony and Jamie went out to bat. The Bardwell opening bowler was a bit wayward too, giving us 8 extras in the first over. The pair scoring well until Jamie was bowled in the 6th over, for 13.
Tabs was next in, and was bowled too, with Tayler and Owen following soon after.
Perhaps big hitting Vinny could turn it around? Unfortunately not - Vinny top edged the ball onto his forehead, and the ball being caught by a fielder at the far end of the wicket! Fortunately Vinny was ok, apart from the large lump on his head.
Tony took advantage of a young bowlers first over and hit him for 16. The bowler took his revenge 2 overs later by bowling him out. Tony was angry with himself for getting out on 49, but Eileen sorted him out!
With the dismissal of Arran, it was down to brothers Buster and Bloss to restore pride. We had 10 overs left, and needed 40 runs to win.
The pair decided to play conservatively (Pete and Roger were the only batsmen left - which was worrying). Bardwell fielded well and the singles were difficult to come by, especially as Buster isn't quite the whippet he used to be, between the wickets.
It was in the 38th over, Bloss decided not to leave it until the last over, and hit two splendid fours to win the match.
Buster still angry for being given 4 wides when bowling, got his revenge by stealing a Bardwell player's glasses (long story!)
Next week Captain Pete will impose fines for extras!
