HADLEIGH CRICKET CLUB, SUFFOLK Saturday 1st X1 v Mistley on Sat 30 Jul 2016 at 1:00pm
HADLEIGH CRICKET CLUB, SUFFOLK Lost by 7 wickets

Match report Hadleigh welcomed Mistley to Friars Road on Saturday in a vital clash at the foot of the Division one table. After winning the toss captain Ben Wallis elected to have a bat and things did not go to plan early on as opener Josh Davey was caught behind without scoring in the third over. His dismissal was very soon followed by that of Marlon Dias, Luke Istead and Ben Parker as Hadleigh found themselves 4 down for very few runs. Mark Simmonds and Kyle Tanner rebuilt with Simmonds piledriving several fours through the off side giving the home side some much needed momentum. Tanner at the other end played a support role to Simmonds but both men were removed before drinks with less than 80 on the board. Alex Milnes and Ben Wallis then formed a crucial partnership of 59 as the captain continued to play his natural game despite the circumstances. Milnes struggled for timing but battled courageously to play anchor for the free flowing wallis. However after 38 overs the partnership was broken as Milnes was caught and bowled for 12. Wickets then began to tumble as the lower order was removed in the space of 3 more overs meaning Hadleigh were bowled out for 145- Wallis carrying his bat for a fantastic half century.

Hadleigh came out to defend a below par total with Istead and Tanner running in hard for the team. After a few well struck boundaries Istead managed to remove the Mistley overseas opening batsman after he skied a straight ball to mid on, with Ethan Wright taking an excellent catch. Istead then found the edge of the incoming batsman but the ball was shelled at second slip. This however did not prove costly as Tanner had the same man caught at fine leg by Istead himself off a well directed short ball. Mistley, batting with such little pressure were able to hit boundaries at will and Hadleigh began to struggle to contain. After a few overs of spin from Wallis and Ben Parker, the ball was thrown to the unit Josh Davey. Davey (or unit as he is commonly known on the circuit) managed to pick up a prized wicket with his third ball, a rank long hop which was hit straight down the throat of Luke Istead at deep backward square leg. Despite Davey (unit) settling into his spell and bowling some fantastic areas, the Mistley batsmen were able to knock off the remaining runs with very little trouble as they marched to a 7 wicket victory. A comprehensive defeat which must very quickly be overcome for Hadleigh, who have the big trip to Braintree next week at this vital time in the season.
