HADLEIGH CRICKET CLUB, SUFFOLK Lost By 29 Runs

Match report Another difficult week for team selection (getting bored of saying it now!) 2 of our regular 'oldies' Vinny and Tony being unavailable. So Ben Warner and Gavin 'reverse sweep' Peters were called upon.
A short trip to Lavenham, and a quick inspection of the wicket, and all seemed well. Pete strolled out and won the toss (taken now as being normal) and elected Lavenham to bat on a very windy afternoon.
Brothers Arran & Owen were picked to open the bowling. It was during the first over, we noticed that the wicket was 'unpredictable' to say the least! Some bouncing to head height, some not bouncing at all, hence the 1st wicket in the 3rd over! A 2nd wicket was taken in the 6th over - we were cruising!
Wickets slowed, and another wicket wasn't taken until drinks with Lavenham on 100. The 2 batsmen were to go on to make 50 & 51, 3rd highest scorer were extras at 36! A poor day for the bowlers and some slack fielding also. Pick of the bowlers was Bloss, taking 4 wickets for 46.
Lavenham finished their 40th over on 213-9.
After tea, Hadleigh openers Jamie and Ben went out to bat. A frustratingly slow start meant we only got to double figures in the 8th over (for the loss of 2 wickets). Wickets continued to fall, at 22 overs we were 59-6 (we were only just better than the England Team!).
Unlike England though, we recovered with the introduction of Captain Pete and Bloss into the batting. Between them they added over 100 runs. Captain Pete hitting 3 very impressive sixes and Bloss 1 six and a string of fours.
For a moment a win seemed possible, we needed 50 off 5 overs, and the brothers were looking good. Unfortunately both lost their wicket in the 36th over. Bloss scoring 75 and Captain Pete a decent 44. Corey, Gavin and Roger unable to carry the momentum on. Hadleigh were all out for 184, a brave attempt.
A special mention to Gavin, who went very pale when he realised he was going into bat, and letting Rhys dress him. Gavin was heard to say he was going to be sick!
Oh well, a disappointing result, but we don't want promotion anyway!
