HADLEIGH CRICKET CLUB, SUFFOLK Sunday Development XI v Elveden on Sun 14 Jun 2015 at 1.30 pm
HADLEIGH CRICKET CLUB, SUFFOLK Lost By 38 Runs

Match report Our first home game of the season, and with another difficult week for team selection, three players made their Academy debut - Corey Stone, Sam Martin and Gavin 'new trousers' Peters!
With the fine rain, that had persisted all morning, finally stopping at 1:30, the captains agreed a 2 o'clock start, and a reduction to 35 overs.
Pete won the toss (as always) and put Elvedon into bat on a good wicket, but moist outfield. Hadleigh opening bowlers, Oli and Roger immediately pinned down the opening batsmen to just 22 runs off the first 11 overs. Roger bowling 3 maidens and taking 1 wicket.
It was the introduction of Tayler into the bowling that brought the first highlight, Gavin leaping like a salmon to take a catch, his head noticeably larger afterwards.
Unfortunately there had also been a realisation from the Elvedon batsmen, that the run rate needed to improve, which it did. The opening batsmen finally being dismissed by Corey on 67, after another leaping salmon catch by Gavin (A contender for 'Weekly Wonder' for sure!). Corey then bowled out the next batsmen for a golden duck and was on for a hat-trick, but it wasn't to be.
Batsman no. 5 was a problem and went on to score 79 not out. Elvedon finished on a respectable 186 after their slow start.
After tea Hadleigh opening batsmen, Oli and Ryan went out to bat, and made a good start. Olie was bowled for 18 and Ryan went on to make a fine 52. Double figure contributions from Tony, Pete and Owen helped, but poor contributions from the others saw Hadleigh struggling to reach the target. Our only hope was Gavin, coming in at 11 to win the game for us! 2 quick singles to start was promising, and then after a dot ball was seen to rehearse a reverse sweep shot to the applause of the spectators. It was with horror he played this shot the next ball, unfortunately the only thing he swept were his own stumps!
Never has a last batsmen taken such applause, for losing the game.
A good game, with 3 new players and lots of smiling faces. Who cares about winning anyway.
