Sudbury II v HADLEIGH CRICKET CLUB, SUFFOLK Sunday Development XI on Sun 10 May 2015 at 1.30 pm
HADLEIGH CRICKET CLUB, SUFFOLK Won By 3 Wickets

Match report With a relatively easy week for team selection (for a change!), the Hadleigh Academy went off to play Sudbury, who followed us down to Div. 5 last year. A beautiful day, Pete won the toss again (yawn) and elected a 10-man Sudbury to bat first.
Arran and Taylor opened the bowling, but the opening batsmen were more than a match, and after 10 overs were on 72. We could be chasing down 300 here!
Captain Pete made the decision to introduce Daniel and Tony into the bowling line-up, with immediate results. Wickets fell, as did the run rate. At 20 overs Sudbury were only on 98, this was looking much better. The opening 4 bowlers all taking a wicket each, with the exception of Roger, who took 2! The only mistake we made was taking the 6th wicket, which introduced the Sudbury Saturday 1st Team Captain into the fray. Sudbury must consider him to be a mighty hero, for being able to hit a 12 year old so far!
Sudbury finished on 184, not a bad total for Hadleigh to chase, all things considered. Many catches were dropped, but in hindsight perhaps this wasn't a bad thing, as it would have only introduced the hero sooner!
After tea, Hadleigh openers Gary 'always scores 33' Wiles and Jamie went out to bat, runs were scored steadily and the first wicket not falling until the 18th over on 72 runs. Gary scored a below par 31 and Jamie 26. With Rhyss and Vinny making little impact, it was left to the father/son combination Tony and Taylor to make amends. Taylor hitting an impressively quick 22 in only his second game, and Tony playing safely and sensibly too. With contributions of 21 and 16 from Arran and Daniel respectively, it was going to be a close game!
Roger (still nursing an injured finger from an earlier dropped catch) made the secretarial decision to let Captain Pete go in at 10 with Tony, with 106 years of experience between them, what could go wrong! We needed 22 off 18 balls.
Nothing went wrong - Pete hit the winning runs with 2 balls to spare.
First win of the season, and the first win since August last year!
