Edwardstone v HADLEIGH CRICKET CLUB, SUFFOLK Sunday Development XI on Sun 17 Aug 2014 at 1.30 pm
HADLEIGH CRICKET CLUB, SUFFOLK Lost By 1 Wicket

Match report Another dreadful week for team selection, with almost all of the younger players being unavailable. With only 9 players, drastic action had to be taken - Simon 'Mango' Manthorpe was forced to play!
With a very senior squad of 8 (plus a very young Arran and Owen), we arrived at a very blustery Edwardstone (Boxford really!).
With Pete on the drag, Vinnie stepped up to the captaincy and went to toss. He lost! Hadleigh were asked to bat first, on a rapidly drying wicket.
Tabs and Mango were the chosen openers. Steady progress was made, with Mango being made to run a 3 in only the 3rd over, and requesting oxygen soon after. Mrs Mango and Miss Mango were unimpressed with Simon's slow build up to full batting speed. Unfortunately they left, before he twisted his knee and rolled around for a little while.
Tabs scored a quick respectable 32 and Simon went on to make 28. Vinny and Bloss were the only other batsmen to make double figures, big hitting Vinny attempting to kill the collective supporters with one of 2 sixes, and Bloss achieving 50 on the 2nd to last ball.
Hadleigh reached 168 after 40 overs with only 10 batsmen.
After tea, Hadleigh went out to field with nephew/uncle partnership, Arran and Buster, opening the bowling. Buster was very pleased to Bowl out Brett Crisp in the 4th over, but Sam Chapman remained steadfast. It was the introduction of Roger into the bowling that led to Sam's eventual dismissal, one ball being hit hard onto Tab's foot, and a potential catch being missed by Vinny, who didn't see the ball! It was Captain Pete that eventually caught him out on 51. It was noticeable that the fielding speed of Tabs (injured), Simon (knackered) and Buster (old) was noticeably slower.
Continued fine bowling from Bloss and Buster led to Edwardstone being on 158 for 9, on 34 overs. Hopes were high, but unfortunately the last 2 batsmen were able to surpass the Hadleigh total in the 38th over.
Another narrow loss, normal service has been resumed!
