Battisford II v HADLEIGH CRICKET CLUB, SUFFOLK Sunday Development XI on Sun 06 Jul 2014 at 1.30 pm

Match report Yes - you read correctly - A WIN! Something the Sunday 2nd XI haven't experienced since last August. Oh how much sweeter it makes the experience. Let me tell you all about it.
A mid morning phone call from The Battisford Captain confirming the match was on, they had put the covers on (1st team, pay attention!). The team being thrown into turmoil immediately, because Bloss was called out by Trumpton Fire Brigade. Roger, still suffering from 'Man-Flu', was forced to play. No wicket-keeper being available, also forcing Tabs into action.
Pete won the toss as normal (yawn) and elected Battisford to bat. The early wicket of Batsmen #2, to a fine one handed catch by Barnaby, was a bonus. Just like the week before, Battisford scored an incredibly steady 4 runs per over. It was decided to bring on Ollie McMillan, to show us all, his incredible spin bowling. The batsmen must have been incredible too, as they hit him for 10 off his first over! One of his bowls was hit so hard back at him, that it struck his ankle, and a McMillan nurse was almost required! Ollie recovered, but still posted the worse bowling figures.
It was at this point, a miracle occured! All of the planets must have been in perfect alignment, when something strange happened - Roger took a catch at deep square leg. A feat he was to repeat again, later in the match.
Pete then went to field at deep square leg himself, and missed a catch, because he was talking about Trumpton Bloss, to his wife!
The introduction of Ben Daniels for his 2nd stint, saw the final dismissal of the opening batsmen for 66. The run rate slowed and Battisford finished on 152 (44 less than the previous week).
After tea, Hadleigh openers Gary '33' Wiles and Tabs, went out to bat and good steady progress was made. Tabs hit two fine sixes, the second of which lost the ball, and a replacement ball was found. Tab's blames this for his almost instant dismissal for 36.
The team dared not look, as Gary approached 33, but Gary surpassed this and was unluckily run-out on 38. Ollie and Barnaby went on to make decent scores of 17 and 21 respectively.
We were 124-2, but suddenly we were 138-7, and the potential 1st win was slipping from our grip. We needed not to have worried, as Fraser and Arran did us proud, and achieved the remaining runs required with almost 2 overs left.
Roger and Pete, already padded up, sighed with relief.
Could the 2nd part of the season, be the turning point for the Sunday 2nd's!
