Stowmarket v HADLEIGH CRICKET CLUB, SUFFOLK Sunday 1st XI (No team) on Sun 10 Jul 2011 at 1.30pm

Match report In a match that could easily have been determined by a brief rain shower, Hadleigh managed to claim victory at Stowmarket. Winning the toss Captain Green decided to field and immediately turned to Tim Rix to open the bowling attack along with Sam Bassett. Both were successful in their spells removing the 3 opening batsmen for low scores. A brief note on the opening bowlers with young Bassett consuming a quantity of pain killers prior to the match after having found himself involved in a cricket match the day before and Tim Rix blowing a little after he himself was also involved in a rain affected game on the Saturday.
Both bowlers were replaced by Murray Spence and Blake Ambrose. They themselves took wickets , with Murray Spence taking the all important one of the Sri Lankan Madanyake for 32 runs, his runs again mostly generated on the leg side.
At the other end Balke Ambrose Bowled a consistant line and length and was rewarded with two wickets . Further changes were made with Marty Grayling replacing Ambrose and Ashgar fitting in at the pavilion end to restrict the home side to a total of 154 all out.
Batting for Hadleigh started in bright sunshine with Nikhil Ellis and Ryan Phillips, however the latter fell to a disputed stumping off Madanyake's spin bowling. Young buck Brett Crisp , who, earlier in the day had had a fine game behind the stumps, was dismissed without troubling the scorers. At this stage the heavens opened and for some 45 mintures the rain fell. Eventually the home side did put their roll on covers over the wicket ends and continued to press the Hadleigh Captain to agree to terminate the game due to the weather conditions. Captain Green however, stood firm and as the rain cleared and the sun returned the 'away' side removed the covers and the match continued. Ellis was run out soon after having called a quick single .
Enter Murray Spence who it seemed was in top form seeing off the difficult bowling on a greasy pitch and then laying bat to ball before falling unfortunately to what seemed a full toss no ball received above waist height.
With Dan Green already out some overs earlier , two new batsmen in the shape of Rix and Ambrose guided the vistors closer to their target with controlled shot making before Blake Ambrose was trapped in front of his stumps given LBW by the umpire. Andrew Crisp then entered the fray , with the game still finely balanced. As with all matches that end in a victory, partnerships are the key and to this end both Rix and Crisp Snr, batted superbly to see Hadleigh home with 3 overs to spare. Tim Rix's timely innings ending in a faultless Half century.
Champagne moment: Opposition Batsman(unnamed)firstly throwing his bat after being caught cost: £100 for new bat
then kicking and punching the score cost: hut £30 repairs
and finally after stamping his way to the changing rooms ,
ripping the door of its hinges cost:£250 new door
Watching it: priceless
